Producing Food for the World

Agronomy Services

Agronomy services cover a wide range of areas and disciplines including soil science, fertilization techiques and requirements, plant physiology and biology, and new and emerging technologies such as geospatial mapping and remote sensing.

These services are typically offered to the producer from the local cooperative, county extension services, college and university agricultural research facilities and the federal government through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Agronomy services require an intimate knowledge of the local area, soil conditions, crops grown and local pests that can only be provided by agronomists and certified crop specialists local to that area.

Typical services provided at the local level include fertilizer application through spraying, broadcasting or deep banding, field scouting, soil analysis, seed preparation, field mapping and more to be discussed in future articles.

As the world population continues to grow the farm producer has increased pressure to be more efficient and provide higher crop yields. Utilizing these agronomy services provides the farm producer the edge to produce more nutritious food economically and responsibly.

Deep Banding

Deepbandings greatest advantage is its well documented ability to increase early plant growth with a higher yield potential. Fertilizer placed below the depth of the seed and near the seed row allows early roots access to the fertilizer. Deep banding can also reduce weed levels.
