Agronomists
Agronomists look for the ways to make soils more productive, to produce more food. The growing population of the planet requires evermore nutritious foods while the arable land available for food production shrinks. So it’s the agronomist who looks for ways to increase the production of foods on the available land and to preserve that land so it will continue to be productive in the future.
For the agronomist, research is always continuing in areas of crop rotation, irrigation, plant breeding, soil fertility and classification, spatial technologies, soil biology, soil remediation, as well as other areas of concern.
While many agronomists are employed as researchers or teachers a growing number of certified agronomists are employed directly by agricultural cooperatives to consult and advise farm producers on methods to increase crop production efficiency. In this role they perform a myriad of tasks including field scouting, soil analysis, plot testing, field spraying, deepbanding and others.
